Trigger Warning: discussing trauma from SA (no specific details)
This morning, I was working through a worksheet that my therapist assigned me. We recently started working on CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) to help process my trauma. And while I was doing that, I came to a realization. Half of my life has been spent healing, processing, and living with my trauma. It’s just a hard thought, honestly. It’s been 15 years, and I’ve done a lot of healing, yet the pain is still raw. Deep.
I believe that sharing one’s story gives them power. I have been writing poetry for the last year or two. I’m definitely not a poet, though. I feel connected to what I’ve written, yet it hasn’t felt right. I have been working on comic projects lately, so I recently started working on the idea of transforming my poetry into a graphic memoir. And wow, what I’ve worked on so far feels incredibly powerful. I am excited to work more on this (I expect it to be a long process) and take control of my story & my power.
Since starting CPT and working on sharing my story will surely bring up unwanted thoughts and feelings, I am practicing being kinder to myself.
I’ve been working on a few affirmations to say throughout my day. Shoutout to the app, Finch, for helping me work on habits like affirmations.*
- I am resilient. I am capable. I am strong.
- I am worthy of taking up space and expressing myself authentically.
- I am forging my own future.
- I am happy. I am safe. I am loved.
- I am in control of my body and mind.
Thank you to anyone reading this personal post today. I am lucky to feel safe enough to start sharing pieces of my story and healing process.
Though I haven’t been blogging much lately, I hope to share some of my writing and comics soon, as well as posts on my healing progress! (And also book reviews, of course!)
